The Omron Full Body Sensor Body Composition Monitor and Scale calculates your body composition through a quick and gentle method known as Bioelectrical Impedance. Muscles, blood, bone and body tissues have high water content, which means they conduct electricity easily. Body fat, however, stores much less water—so the flow of electricity is blocked or impeded from traveling easily through the body. You can think of body fat as a road block. The more body fat, the more the electricity is impeded.

Through the course of the day, your body composition can change as gravity draws more water into your legs. If more water is in your legs, it creates an easier path for the electricity to travel. Other body sensors on the market—known as foot-to-foot monitors—measure only the composition of the legs. This results in a less accurate measurement of body composition.
